Spiral Grilled Hot Dogs

Take your hot dogs up a notch! Spiral Cut Grilled Hot Dogs are the best way to make them. This method is easy to do, more surface area to caramelize, and just plain fun. Great for a BBQ during the summer with friends and family, or anytime!

Best Grilled Hot Dogs

You guys, if you love hot dogs like we do, you need to try this spiral cut method.

Slicing the dog in a nonstop motion around its circumference, lends more surface area while grilling, resulting in a shorter cooking time, and making it crispier, more caramelized, and more flavorful! And any condiment you use, just falls into the meaty grooves.

Plus, in addition to the extra deliciousness factor, they’re just simply fun. The coil expands and contracts, resembling something like a slinky toy. Enjoyed by kids and adults alike!

How to Spiral Cut Hot Dogs

Cutting hot dogs in a spiral fashion is easy! You just need skewers and a knife.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for more instruction.)

  1. Thread on skewers. Slowly push a skewer (metal or wood) through the center, lengthwise, of the hot dog as best you can. Try to keep it straight. (Hot dogs are pretty forgiving, so if you mess up, just gently pull it out and try again.)
  2. Slice. Once you have them skewered, place it on a cutting board. With a knife, begin making angled cuts (about 1 inch apart) all the way down to the skewer, turning the hot dog away from you, as you go.
  3. Remove the skewers. Gently remove the skewers…and grill those dogs up!

How to Grill Hot Dogs

Grilling hot dogs literally takes minutes. I just set these over medium heat for about 5 minutes, turning them 2-3 times to get an even cook.

Don’t set the temperature too high or they’ll burn, and keep an eye on them and continuing rotating so they get an even cook. Delicious! (Scroll below to the printable recipe card for more instruction.)
